Okál is a vernacular term for standardised prefabricated wooden buildings that emerged in Czechoslovakia in the early 1970s. At that time, the national company Rudné doly Jeseník acquired a licence for the corresponding system from the German company OKAL - Otto Kreinbaum (now part of Deutsche Fertighaus Holding), whose abbreviation was changed to okál. Okal were a popular and relatively accessible alternative to prefabricated housing estates, and a large number of them were built.
